Sheps King-McAlpin, M.D., Ph.D.

Position title: PGY1

Sheps will be earning his M.D., Ph.D., from University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. Sheps served as the Co-Organizer for the University of Iowa at the 3rd Annual Mental Health Equity Grand Rounds, coordinating efforts with the Department of Psychiatry and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. His experiences include post-doctoral research, teaching and mentoring as a Graduate Teaching assistant during a Microbiology Lab. Sheps grew up in Georgia, and completed his undergraduate education at Morehouse, where he was “accustomed to being surrounded by people who look like me”. Sheps was accepted into the MSTP at the University of Iowa where he experienced “the challenges of adjusting to my new environment” in a very different community. Joining a professional student co-op for most of his MD/PhD training, encouraged him to connect with fellow residents to engage the broader academic community.
