Tanner Bommersbach, MD, MPH is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He specializes in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in youth and is committed to improving systems of care for children and families with complex mental health needs.
Dr. Bommersbach is a mental health services researcher focused on high-risk behaviors in youth, particularly substance use and suicide. He uses large-scale observational and administrative data to study the epidemiology of these behaviors, including national trends, healthcare utilization, access to care, and treatment outcomes. His research aims to inform clinical and policy strategies for reducing youth suicide and expand access to evidence-based care. His work has been published in leading medical journals, including JAMA, JAMA Psychiatry, and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Dr. Bommersbach earned his medical degree from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and an MPH in health policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed residency training and a public psychiatry fellowship at Yale University, followed by fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Mayo Clinic. From 2023–2024, he served as a policy fellow in the Center for Mental Health Services at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and was named a Laughlin Fellow by the American College of Psychiatrists.
