Ronald Sommers, MD
Medical School: Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine
With a deep interest in literature and philosophy, Ron spent the year following his graduation from Boston College working as a substance abuse counselor and case manager through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest. He wrote of this pivotal and immersive time: “I quickly realized that the field of mental health encompasses the entire human universe- everything ranging from the science of molecules and neurons, to philosophical considerations about what makes human beings tick, to practical knowledge of social and economic institutions. I was hooked.” Going on to Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Ron brought this breadth of perspective to his approach to patients along with “genuine warmth, patience, compassion, and empathy”, a combination that will be sure to be a boon to our program and patients.
