Alexandra Kushnir, MD
PGY3 - Public Health Track
Medical School: People’s Friendship University of Russia Faculty of Medicine
“What is a true calling if not an opportunity to utilize one’s greatest assets and experiences for the benefit of other people?” Wise words from Dr. Alexandra “Sasha” Kushnir, a graduate of the People’s Friendship University of Russia Faculty of Medicine in Moscow. Sasha has long had a plan to train in the U.S., and prepared for this by qualifying as a Medical English Translator while in medical school. She has had rich psychiatry-related experiences while living in the US. During her time at the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), Sasha attended a congressional hearing on mental health parity, participated in a research project on the use of ASAM criteria for determining level of patient care, and became familiar with organized medicine. While in residency she developed a special interest in psychotic disorders. Outside of work, Sasha is most passionate about traveling, which in her case typically involves gastro-tourism, downhill skiing, snorkeling and diving with exotic fish.
