DESCRIPTION:  \nINNOVATION IN RESEARCH AND TREATMENT OF PERINATAL DEPRESSION – WHERE ARE WE NOW?\n\n  \nSamantha Meltzer-Brody\, MD\, MPH\nAssad Meymandi Distinguished Professor and Chair\nDirector\, UNC Center for Women’s Mood Disorders\nUNC School of Medicine \n  \nIn this talk\, we will review current innovations in research and treatment of perinatal depression. We will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and what we can learn from utilization of telepsychiatry to increase access to care.  We will review how research is conducted using smart phones and other mobile devices. PMID: 30177236.\n\n\nDr. Samantha Meltzer-Brody\, MD\, MPH\, is the Assad Meymandi Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry in the UNC School of Medicine. She also serves as the Director for the UNC Center for Women’s Mood Disorders. \nHer current research efforts are focused primarily on Perinatal Depression and she is currently funded by multiple NIH grants to investigate epidemiologic\, genetic\, and other biomarker models of perinatal depression. She established the international postpartum depression consortium (PACT) and is the co-I of the PPD ACT app\, a smart phone study that is a large international genetic study of postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Dr. Meltzer-Brody and colleagues also investigate novel treatment options for depression in perinatal women and she is the academic PI for the brexanolone clinical trials. She also collaborates with colleagues on global health efforts including perinatal mental health in Malawi\, Africa. Zweifel\, Ph.D. \nTitle: Bonding\, Breastfeeding\, and Beautiful Births-The Jewels in The Fictitious Tiara of Motherhood\n \nVia WebEx \n\nAbout the Speaker: \nJulianne Zweifel\, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She earned her doctoral degree at Bowling Green State University and completed her internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Zweifel is recognized by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. \nDr. Zweifel’s area of expertise is in working with individuals and couples facing reproductive health issues including infertility\, high risk pregnancies\, multiple gestation\, miscarriage and infant death. She developed a private practice in the Madison area in 1994\, began consulting with the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2003\, and joined the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005. Her research interests include psychological aspects of egg donation\, decision making processes for patients in infertility and the role of stress in infertility. \nShe plays a vital role in the care available to patients in reproductive medicine. Dr. Zweifel provides supportive and educational consultations to patients facing complex decisions regarding treatment choices and to patients having anxiety\, depression or relationship strain as they pursue their dream of having a child. Patients participating in these consultations can expect to find a supportive environment in which to discuss concerns about the impact of their treatment choices for themselves as well as their hoped for children.
