Zweifel\, Ph.D. \nTitle: Bonding\, Breastfeeding\, and Beautiful Births-The Jewels in The Fictitious Tiara of Motherhood\n \nVia WebEx \n\nAbout the Speaker: \nJulianne Zweifel\, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She earned her doctoral degree at Bowling Green State University and completed her internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Zweifel is recognized by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. \nDr. Zweifel’s area of expertise is in working with individuals and couples facing reproductive health issues including infertility\, high risk pregnancies\, multiple gestation\, miscarriage and infant death. She developed a private practice in the Madison area in 1994\, began consulting with the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2003\, and joined the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005. Her research interests include psychological aspects of egg donation\, decision making processes for patients in infertility and the role of stress in infertility. \nShe plays a vital role in the care available to patients in reproductive medicine. DESCRIPTION:Nancy Raymond\, MD  \nTopic: Compulsive Sexual Disorders \nLocation: Webex \n\nAbout the Speaker: \nNancy Raymond\, MD is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development at University of Wisconsin—Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. She joined the at the UW Madison\, SMPH in 2017. In her role as Associate Dean she is responsible for implementing professional development programming designed to advance the careers of faculty on all tracks and on all the SMPH campuses. The mission of her office is to foster a healthy and supportive learning\, research and clinical environment for all stakeholders by ensuring that SMPH faculty have the resources\, skills and competencies they require to lead successful and fulfilling professional lives. She practices clinically at Behavioral Health and Recovery one day a week and supervises resident at WisPIC one half day a week. She also serves on the Psychiatry Department’s Wellness Committee. \nPrior to coming to Madison\, she was a Professor in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Minnesota Medical School and on the faculty of the Program in Human Sexuality (PHS) in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. Over the course of her research career\, she has focused on disorders where control of urges to engage in problematic behavior is a central feature of the disorder. Initially she focused her work on bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Upon joining the faculty of the PHS\, she became interested in the how compulsivity\, impulsivity and control over problematic urges played a role in compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) and paraphilias. With collaborators Michael Miner\, PhD and Eli Coleman\, PhD she has published on the nature of CSB and the novel use of naltrexone to decrease urges to engage in problematic behaviors. She completed her internship and postdoc hours at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections conducting assessment and mental health treatment to male and female inmates. Before starting with UW Health Behavioral Health in 2016 she worked in a residential PTSD program at the VA for 2 years. DESCRIPTION:Long-Acting Injectables \nRon Diamond\, MD  \nLocation:\n4th Floor Conference Room\nUW Behavioral Health & Recovery\n1102 South Park Street\nMadison\, WI 53715 \n\nAbout the Speaker: \nFor more than 40 years\, Dr. Diamond has been involved in the community-based treatment of persons with severe and persistent mental illness.  He has taught and written on issues of staff training\, ethics\, staff roles\, decreasing coercion\, medication compliance\, psychiatric administration and system design. For more than three decades\, he has been interested in how to integrate concepts of recovery and cultural competence into day-to-day clinical practice.  His psychopharmacology book\, “ Instant Psychopharmacology” was written for non-medical clinicians\, consumers and family members.  The third edition of this was published in 2009.  In keeping with all of his work\, drafts of this book were reviewed by consumers\, as was his previous book\, “Treatment collaboration\, improving the therapist\, prescriber\, client relationship” published in 2007.  His newest book\, The Medication Question:  Weighing Your Mental Health Treatment Options for Patients and Their Families was published in 2011. \nHe retired from Journey Mental Health in Feb 2013 after 35 years\, first as staff psychiatrist and then Medical Director.   He retired from the UW Department of Psychiatry Jan 2018 after 39 years on the faculty. \nSpecialties \n\nCommunity Psychiatry\nEmergency Psychiatry\nSchizophrenia\nPsychopharmacology\nPrimary Care Behavioral Care Integration\n\n\nAbout the Series: \nThe Educational Conference series is a series of lectures designed to provide clinically useful information to the practicing psychiatrist (faculty or trainee).  Every 1 to 2 months an intra- or extra-departmental speaker is invited to speak on a topic of interest selected by current faculty.  This educational series is open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.  Continue Medical Education units (CME’s) are available to eligible attendees.

DESCRIPTION:*** Part of the Briskey Family Bipolar Lecture Series*** \nPredicting the Development of Bipolar Disorder and Mood Recurrences –\nToward Personalized Psychiatry\nBoris Birmaher\, MD\nEndowed Chair in Early Onset Bipolar Disease and Professor of Psychiatry\nDirector\, Child and Adolescent Bipolar Spectrum Services\nCo-Director\, Psychiatry Research Pathway Program\nUniversity of Pittsburgh \nLearning objectives: \n\nTo describe the prodromal symptoms of bipolar disorder\nTo describe the course and outcome of bipolar disorder in youth and the factors associated with increases risk for recurrences\nTo describe the use of “risk calculators” to predict “personalized” risk to develop bipolar disorder as well as the risk of recurrences.\n\n\nDr. Birmaher is the Endowed Chair in Early Onset Bipolar Disease and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh\, School of Medicine and serves as the Co-Director of the Psychiatry Research Pathway program and the Director of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Spectrum Services.  He received his medical degree from Valle University in Cali\, Colombia; completed training in general psychiatry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem\, Israel\, and child psychiatry at Columbia University\, New York. \nDr Birmaher is a leader in the study and treatment of pediatric mood and anxiety disorders. In addition\, his research has concentrated in describing the predictors\, risk factors\, course and treatment of childhood-onset bipolar disorder.  Throughout his career\, he has served as the Principal\, Co-Principal or co-investigator for over 25 federally-sponsored research grants and projects.  He has authored or co-authored more than 430 publications\, numerous book chapters as well as his own book\, New Hope for Children and Teens with Bipolar Disorder.  Dr. Birmaher has been the recipient of numerous awards over the years including the Colvin Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Mood Disorders Research in 2013 and the Ittleson Award for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2014.  In 2018\, he received the Gerald L Klerman Senior Investigator Award and the Lifelong Fellow Award from the American Psychiatric Association. For four years and until 10/2018 he was the Program Chair of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and recently was named Counselor-At-Large of the same association.
