What is fMRI?

fMRI = functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI)

  • nA noninvasive, painless medical test
n
  • nA type of Magnetic Resonance Imaging that measures changes in parts of the brain as they are used
–            - relatively new procedure
–            - produces detailed pictures of internal body structures
–            - does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays)
–
  • n The method of choice for understanding how a brain is working
