FELLOWSHIPS
Specialization after a general psychiatry residency allows you to focus on and develop a specific set of clinical skills. A fellowship is required to receive board certification in each psychiatry subspecialty. It may also serve as a stepping stone to a career in academic medicine.
The University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry offers five types of fellowships:

Addiction PsychiatryWe now offer a one-year clinical fellowship or two-year research fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry, based at the Madison VA and Meriter Hospital. |

Child & Adolescent PsychiatryWe offer a two-year Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) fellowship that emphasizes comprehensive assessment and empirically-based interventions for children and adolescents across a broad diagnostic spectrum. |

Geriatric PsychiatryOur ACGME-accredited Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program will provide you with the skills necessary to care for an aging U.S. population. |

Research FellowshipsResidents with an interest in academic medicine, especially those interested in a research career, will benefit greatly from a post-doctoral research fellowship. |
